Hello and welcome. This is an article that may be GREATLY needed. At the very least I think it is. I began wearing makeup around age 14 and once I started, it had been the WRONG shade for my skin. So! I am just looking to speak out for the Beautiful, Brown-Skinned Black Women which may have as hard a period finding makeup while i do. So, permit me to offer you a little background on me.
To start with, Black is beautiful, as well as the darker the berry the sweeter the juice! That being said, at 14 I found myself just a little blackberry with out a clue. Initially when i first started wearing makeup it was actually just lipstick and yes it started off being my mom’s Fashion Fair. My mother who may be light-skinned and contains a daughter who seems to be dark-skinned. Naturally her lipstick did NOT match whatsoever. I was even known as dark-skinned Ronald McDonald by way of a previous ex-boyfriend!
So, I believe that us brown-skinned and dark-skinned women need a little extra help since it is more difficult for people to discover make-up that suits in drugstores, or makeup on dark skin which is affordable. Plus Cosmo and Glamour and all of them be discussing great make-up for spring, but uh, hello did you forget black girls like makeup for spring too? So, I feel your pain. I am just a self-appointed makeup aficionado, and wish to offer my experiences in addition to some products which are FABO rather than so much fabo. So… without further ado, let’s get going!
JUST AN FYI: These are typically all make-ups that we experienced to use through trial and error thus i am sharing from EXPERIENCE!
FACE: I struggle to look for a foundation, and full-coverage make-up which is affordable so here are a few wonderful finds that I have found that happen to be both.
1-Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Foundation- Spicy Brown
PROS- it is actually great at matching skin tones who have yellow or red undertones, spreads easily and when you only need moderate coverage will give you a great value for your money. It can be affordable ranging about 6-8 bucks, and you may think it is in most drugstores, and grocery stores.
CONS- When you have dark spots and blemishes, this may NOT give you the coverage you require! Not close, okay? Additionally, it wears off quickly so you would need to reapply often. The bottle is upside down with a little spout, so when you pour out a lot of, you are unable to use it in the bottle as well as in these times of economic crisis er’ tiny bit counts am I right ladies?!
Also, if you have troubles matching the skin tone simply because you have BOTH yellow and red, or perhaps blue and red undertones, this collection will not be to suit your needs since there is not a vast selection from which to choose, so you may need to go forward. Other shades that are ideal for brown-skinned to dark-skinned gals, and a few individuals fellas! Rich Mink, Sheer Espresso, and True Ebony.
2- Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation
PROS-It will give you more coverage than the Liquid Foundation. That’s it. That’s about all I can think about.
CONS-Unfortunately, it rubs off QUITE quickly. It is additionally tinted slightly differently compared to the liquid foundation and so i found it harder to suit my skin tone. Also, whenever it was warm outside it wipes RIGHT off, and revealed every blemish in my face! LOL, in addition, it wipes off on your clothes, stains the hands, the whole bit. It’s moderately priced as well, so if you want to look nice to get a date through the night, going somewhere cool, it’s a brief fix, but I wouldn’t wear it on the club, or a carnival, anywhere that will be warm, or sweaty. It can be chosen in a similar.
3- Black Opal True Color Liquid Foundation – Black Walnut
PROS-Awesome Coverage. There is quite a bit inside the bottle so that it will last you a good while. It is really an upright standing bottle using a generous opening, if you pour out too much, it won’t be too difficult to have back into the bottle, so that you can SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! I wear foundation every single day, sometimes wash my face and re-apply if venturing out that night, and that bottle lasts me with regards to a good two months or more. You will recognize that it ranges from about 8-12 bucks… depending on your geographical area. It is therefore a great buy.
CONS- In case you have combination to oily skin, WEAR POWDER, and keep it along! Throughout these upcoming warm to hot days, you may look really greasy from the face. However if you keep Blotters together with you, or powders, you ought to be okay. Also, it could just be that MY complexion changes, so if that is the situation disregard, nevertheless i discover that when I head to buy a completely new one, the shade may not match such as the previous one, so be mindful of that particular.
Another con is that Black Opal Products may be a little harder to find in shops than other products that I mention. I don’t determine if it’s that they’re not too popular, or what, but whenever I look Normally i locate them in either Rite-Aid, or CVS. So, happy hunting. Other colors good for brown-skinned girls… Carob, Suede Mocha, and Ebony Brown….. And for you borderline caramel to brown-skin girls, Hazelnut!
4-Maybelline Pure Make-Up (Shine Free Foundation with H2O) – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- Very affordable, easy to find. Positioned in Most drugstores, supermarkets, Wal-Mart. Costs range about 5.99-10 bucks, based on your region. Full coverage, doesn’t clog your pores, spreads easily.
CONS-Upside-down tube, so you will have to be exact about how precisely much is essential to your face, cause when you use an excessive amount of… it would get wasted. Limited colors for darker skin tones. They simply have THREE shades for women in our color. Dark 1- Tan, Dark 2- Caramel, and Dark 3-Cocoa. We have used the Cocoa. It really is too dark for my skin-tone.
However, the Caramel Dark 2 is just too light. So, in case you are pressed for money and don’t have enough money to experiment, I wouldn’t waste my time for this product. They already have FIVE shades dedicated to light, FOUR for medium and simply three for us darkies??!!! Leave the product alone, unless you occur to match EXACTLY. Best of luck evading the lady who attempts to watch you once you try to sample these products inside the store!
5- Black Radiance Color Perfect Oil Free Liquid Makeup- Cocoa Bean
PROS-Very inexpensive! VERY! Somewhat accessible. Costs about 5.99-10 bucks, and you may believe it is in many Beauty Supply stores, CVS carries it. Spreads evenly, good coverage, get quite a bit for your buck. Also, comes in a jar having an open spout, so when you have excessive, it is possible to use it back there. Gives you a great matte finish.
CONS- Cocoa Bean fails to match my skin! Having Said That I also provide strange undertones taking place with my skin, so that might be why it is so hard to suit. Once you apply this makeup it dries another color, it’s crazy. There’s this… weird… applicator thingy, unsure how to handle it, but it got during my way basically. Says it is perfect for all skin types, having said that i have very sensitive skin in my face, and that i learned that within 30 mins my face was suffocating and i also found it necessary to wash it away. Other shades to try out are Brownie and Mocha Honey.
6- L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup- Nut Brown
PROS-Oh my goodness you guys this makeup was awesome! Spread really, really good! Matches wonderfully for any yellow undertone. Truly does a brown-skinned girl justice. Light, which means your skin can breathe. Good coverage for girls with blemishes. Pretty easy to find, and i also say that with hesitance, because 7 times out from 10 they will carry all Although the shades for brown-skinned. Um, I see them at Wal-Mart, Walgreens..and that’s virtually it.
CONS- The product has SPF and that i am VERY allergic to sun block thus it broke me out something terrible. Kind of difficult to find. It’s a little more expensive compared to previous products mentioned. MMM, I might say about 10.99 or higher. You may be able to think it is for sale. Also, there exists not a great deal within the bottle, so use sparingly if you can. Other shades to try…. Soft Sable and Cocoa.
7- Revlon Color Stay Make-Up with Soft Flex – Mahogany
PROS- Pretty readily available generally in most drugstores. Colors are great for brown-skinned girls. Type of affordable. Just a little in the more expensive but about 9.99-12.99 just for this product. The policy is okay… Not the best, but if you are searching for light to moderate coverage this is a good product.
CONS- Now, I stumbled upon that Mahogany did not match my undertones that great. I realize…. Again with all the undertones. It dried and made my skin look a little grayish and chalky. There is 58deyypky a real good selection from which to choose for darker skin tones. Has SPF6, harmful to me, but good for everyone who is not really allergic. Also, again, when you don’t have the undertone problem…. Other shades to try out… Cappuccino and Mocha.
And finally but Definitely not least…
8- Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- OH MY GOSH…… loving this product!! (sing song voice) this is actually the current comprise I am just using now! It def does precisely what the commercial says. It covers your pores, and gives a great finish! Maximum coverage! Need NO concealer, well… maybe a bit, but I don’t use any. It is very affordable, anywhere from about 7-10 bucks. I found it right on the Kroger supermarket, so it must be offered by most drug stores. It features a nifty little nozzle that squirts out and it’s really convenient. Also, it is whipped feeling, and i also apply with my fingers.
It just glides directly on, and begins covering all of my pores and dark spots, as well as its not very heavy, I don’t have to use a bunch. The best also comes off, thus if I over-squirt, I will put it right back in the bottle. There’s lots from the bottle, so you don’t need to use a whole lot for coverage. I think I bought this bottle a month ago and I still have a bit more than half a bottle left. It’s great! I really like it. Hopefully this could be the conclusion of the road to me, but usually it isn’t!
